Who do you trust?
Values. As I brand my new business as a professional speaker and emcee, I’ve been reflecting on my own. The more I do, the more I see that knowing, sharing, and living your values is key to success—in your career, relationships, and well-being.
Today, I want to talk about my second value: trust.
I asked Copilot for a definition (because if I’m using AI, I’ll own up to it). It said, “Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.” Makes sense. But what’s missing is trust’s true value—the outcome. Trust lets us feel safe, secure, and free to be vulnerable, authentic, and fully ourselves in all our messy, perfectly imperfect glory as we work toward common goals.
In work or business, trust must be a priority. No one says, “I don’t trust you, but here—take my money, my time, my ideas, my private information, my health concerns, my kids… and do with them what you will.” At least, I hope not—if so, we need to talk!
Obviously, trust is key in personal relationships too. Without it, sure, relationships may limp along, but if trust has ever been broken, you know how shaky, unsafe, and downright crappy that can feel.
But what about trust in your most important relationship—the one with yourself?
If you don’t fully trust yourself, trusting others is difficult, and people sense it. Relationships suffer. You become swayed by others' opinions, uncertain of what’s truly right for you—your career suffers. Without self-trust, you can’t be fully vulnerable, authentic, or your gloriously imperfect self—and your life suffers.
Learning to trust yourself takes work. But when you listen to you—your body, gut, intuition, spirit—you unlock something powerful. That’s when the magic happens.
I’m curious—Is trust one of your values? How does it show up in your life? And how do you build trust in yourself?
