‘Valuing’ your life

This week I had an interesting experience of walking the talk. I had a potential client reach out requesting counselling services. I was excited – I always love to start working with someone new and the feeling of potential that comes with that. I was also excited because my client load has been on the lower side in the past few months and building that up has been a priority. Let’s be honest, I do the work because I love it, but I also need a certain amount of income.

However, through the consultation process, I realized that while I certainly could work with this client, for various reasons, she would likely be better served to work with someone else. My disappointment was palpable.

Now, during past few months, I’ve been doing some branding work as I get ready to launch the professional speaker side of my business. And in this I had identified that my number one value is integrity (with accountability as a sidekick). And to me, integrity means doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.

So, in this case, it meant letting go of ego. Letting go of fear of financial insecurity. Letting go of this new client, who I referred on to trusted colleague.

The value to me of knowing, and living, my values is beyond measure. Because they are a touchstone by which I can guide all of my actions. And for me, that feeling of knowing that I have acted according to my values feels like a strengthening at my very core. It feels good. And it feels right.

Integrity. Trust. Wellness. Laughter. Positivity. Continuous learning.

These are my values. I will act within them, always. And if I don’t – I invite anyone to call me out :-)

Today I invite you to think about your values? How do you live them day-to-day?
